There is nothing like the magic of the Christmas season. And when you have kids, it makes it all the more special. One thing that I look for every year is cozy Christmas decor because I LOVE a house that feels cozy and warm. I wanted to share some pictures of my home (past and present) to give you some inspiration when decorating this holiday season.
If you know me (or my family), you would know that Christmas is A BIG DEAL. Obviously it is for a lot of people, but we are the people that come November 1st, we are grabbing our ornaments and garland and blasting Mariah Carey.
I guess I would say I blame my mom. Every year, for as long as I can remember, she was ALWAYS the first one in the neighborhood with her Christmas stuff up. Ya know, there are studies that show that people who put up their Christmas stuff up early, tend to be happier. And I believe it.
There is just something about a home sprinkled with twinkle lights and cozy Christmas decor. It feels magical and special and it just makes you feel all warm inside.
So, I wanted to share some images of my house from this year and previous years. I’ve also thrown in a couple of other random pictures of places I’ve visited that looked GORG and couldn’t leave out.
This post is all about cozy christmas decor.
Cozy Christmas Decor
Cozy Christmas Room
This is my front room this year. It has changed slightly since taking this picture but still similar. Basically I ended up putting all of our ornaments on this tree instead of making it the “pretty” tree. I figured this will probably be where Santa is going to drop the gifts 😉 so it needed to feel a little more like a family space.
Regardless, one of the things that I love when decorating normally, but also when creating a cozy Christmas aesthetic is layering, layering, layering! I love different textures, blankets and pillows because it really makes things feel much more homey and that it what I want for people when they enter my home.
This is a closer view of the coffee table in front room. One of my favorite finds ever is this coffee table and it provides the perfect base for Christmas decor and making it super cozy. The old world feeling that antiques provide brings warmth and depth that you cannot get with new pieces.
I actually found this piece on Facebook Marketplace, which is one of my favorite places to look. I also suggest going to antique stores, thrift stores, garage sales and estate sales. Honestly, I have even found some gems out at the curb for garbage. A little TLC and someone’s trash (literally) can turn into someone’s treasure!
Cozy Christmas Bedroom Decor
This our master bedroom at our old house. I always put on our green velvet bedding and I absolutely LOVE this white faux fur blanket that I found one year at Homegoods. I really love adding a little bit of Christmas to every room in the house.
This is our current bedroom. We still use the green velvet bedding but added the garland, a christmas throw and pillow and a couple of other touches to make it the perfect mix of cozy Christmas bedroom decor.
Side note: Please ignore the lint of the rug in this picture. Apparently I need to vacuum – woops.
Cozy Christmas Living Room
Our living room at our old house was cozy and I loved decorating at Christmas. I had always wanted a fireplace and was just thrilled to have a place to hang our stockings – it didn’t matter to me that it wasn’t an actual wood burning fireplace. Those memories made in that little room will stay with me forever because all 3 of my babies came home to this house and 2 out of 3 of my babies celebrated their first Christmas there.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but if you have a fireplace, play it up at Christmas! When I see people with fireplaces and all they have is one dinky decoration, it makes me lose my mind! Garland, lights, stockings, trees, candles – I LOVE to do it all. So, of course I am going to suggest the same to you.
This is my set up this year, which – shocker, I have since changed a little bit. Tell me, are you all like me? I change things CONSTANTLY. I honestly think it is a stress reliever for me but it drives my husband insane.
Originally when I decorated this year, I thought that I wanted to keep everything neutral. But, when I was looking around I realized that I was missing a little bit of those pops or red and the kitschy antiques that I love. I ended up incorporating some back into the mix and now I love how things are looking.
I am definitely not that person that changes their theme every year. First of all, that is so expensive. Second of all, I really like seeing that same pieces throughout the years as the kids grow up. A lot of the things I own have stories attached to them and that is super important to me. For instance, every year me, my sisters and my mom go to this Christmas market. We all come home with so many unique finds and being able to link those memories to the Christmas decorations in my house is really cool to me.
Cozy Christmas Pictures
This picture is from an ice cream shop that I took my boys to recently. I had to snap a picture because it felt so nostalgic. There’s something about the retro Christmas vibes that I just LOVE.
I’m going to end with this picture because it’s from my favorite place in the world, Door County. I love the simplicity of the decorations against the white house. It is classic and cozy.
How about you? Are you a classic Christmas type of person or do you like things a little more flashy?
I thought that I would also share some accounts that I love and constantly get inspired by. Some of the styles are different than mine but I still appreciate it and love looking at how people decorate their homes!
Ok, guys. Well I hope you enjoyed going through some Christmas pictures of my home (and a couple randoms thrown in there, too). Christmastime is my favorite time and cozy Christmas decor brings me so much joy. Until next time – Merry Christmas and thanks for stopping by!
